Heavy rains bring flooding to parts of Bicol
Several parts of Bicol Region were flooded due to heavy rains over the weekend.
According to Darlene Cay’s report in “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday, a river in Labo, Camarines Norte overflowed due to the non-stop rains. The strong water current washed away a house.
Meanwhile, residents in Basud, Camarines Norte were alarmed by the high water level of Basud River. Floods in the area nearly reached the rooftops of some houses.
In Caramoran, Catanduanes, a river also overflowed, causing the water to enter houses nearby. In one barangay, a dike was damaged amid the rains and flood, pushing nearby residents to evacuate.
Residents of Panganiban, Catanduanes were also affected by flooding. Hence, the local disaster officials implemented evacuation and rescue operations.

In Bato, Catanduanes, some houses were submerged after Bato River overflowed. In a post on social media, the Bato Municipal Police Station (MPS) said that the roads are now passable again, but it still cautioned people from going out.
In another report, one resident was rescued after being trapped in a flash flood in Viga, Catanduanes. The resident wasn’t able to evacuate amid the quick rise of the water.
Landslides have also been reported in some areas, including Bagamanoc, Catanduanes, where part of the national road was blocked. In Caramoran, Catanduanes, the LGU reported that a flood control dike had given way.
Meanwhile, the inclement weather also had an impact in Quezon, where residents of Tagkawayan experienced waist-deep floods.
PAGASA said that the shear line caused the rains over southern Luzon and the Bicol Region.
In a 5 p.m. advisory, the state weather bureau said that heavy rainfall (50-100 mm) may be expected from tonight until Monday afternoon in the provinces of Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon.
"Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas," it added.
Several local governments in the region have already announced the suspension of classes on Monday. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BM, GMA Integrated News
