WATCH: Mayon Volcano’s lava effusion on Day 37 of effusive eruption

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported the occurrence of lava effusion and collapse from the Mayon Volcano summit crater on Wednesday night amid the volcano’s 37th consecutive day of effusive eruption.

In posts on its social media accounts, PHIVOLCS shared two time-lapse footages of the volcano’s lava effusion and collapse.

The first video was taken between 7:25 p.m. to 7:31 p.m. Wednesday while the second video was taken from 8:24 p.m. to 8:31 p.m.

“Effusive eruption at Mayon Volcano continues for the 37th consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDC) or ‘uson,’ and rockfall,” state volcanologists said.

PHIVOLCS added that the lava flows “have reached radial distances from the crater of ~3.8km in the Basud (east), ~1.6km in the Bonga (southeast), and ~1.3km in the Mi-isi Gullies (south) as of 05 February 2026.”

It reiterated that Alert Level 3 remains in effect over the Mayon Volcano and that entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is prohibited.

Earlier on Monday, the volcano generated its largest PDC at around 10:35 a.m., which traveled down as far as a four-kilometer radial distance along the Mi-isi Gully.

The PDC generated an extensive, one-kilometer-tall brownish ash plume that drifted to the southwest and brought ashfall over 32 barangays in Camalig and Guinobatan towns in Albay. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
