LTO eyes SCO vs. tricycle 'stunt driver' in Taytay, Rizal

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) eyes issuing a show cause order (SCO) against a tricycle driver after viral footage showed him "stunt driving" by speeding while the wheels of his sidecar are raised.

According to a "24 Oras" report by Vonne Aquino on Friday, the footage taken along Manila East Road in Taytay, Rizal showed the driver of a tricycle switching lanes while driving sideways.

The LTO said that they will be filing an SCO against the driver and placing his license under suspension.

“Napaka-delikado po yung ginagawa niya, reckless yan. Maaari siyang madisgrasya o makadisgrasya. Kung halimbawang bigla siyang tumaob, tapos may sasakyan sa likod, nandadamay pa siya ng ibang tao,” said LTO Chief Markus Lacanilao.

(What he did is really dangerous and reckless. He might get into an accident or cause an accident. If, for example, he tips over and there’s a car behind him, he puts the people at risk.)

He added that LTO will probe into whether the tricycle was registered.

The driver may face revocation of his license and the impounding of the vehicle if it is found unregistered.

“Depende po sa grounds, sa lalim ng grounds ng kanyang kakaharapin during the hearing kasi yung show cause order, suspended muna yung license niya, tapos pahaharapin siya sa hearing para ipagbigay yung panig niya,” he shared.

(It depends on the grounds, on how deep the grounds he might face during the hearing because with the show cause order, his license is already suspended and he will be asked to attend the hearing to provide his side.)

The local government of Taytay and the Taytay Municipal Tricycle Franchising and Regulatory Office (TMTFRO) were able to locate the driver, who said that he only did the action because the roads were empty.

They are now looking into revoking the tricycle’s franchise.

“Mariing po nating kinukundina ang mga ganitong klase ng mga gawain sa mga lansangan natin. Lagi tayo nasa kalsada, hindi po natin para gawing playground ng mga kalsada natin,” said Atty. Dustin Regalado of TMTFRO.
