Magnitude 5.7 earthquake hits off the coast of Davao Occidental

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck offshore Davao Occidental on Friday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The quake, which occurred at 10:56 p.m. was tectonic in origin with a depth of 55 kilometers.

The epicenter was located at 03.95°N, 128.62°E - 387 km S 64° E of Sarangani Island in the Municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

There are no expected damage but aftershocks may occur, according to PHIVOLCS.

The earthquake was first reported as having magnitude 5.8 before PHIVOLCS issued an update early Saturday. — BAP/KG, GMA Integrated News
