Oriental Mindoro electric cooperative director shot dead
A member of the board of the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative Inc. (ORMECO) has been shot and killed, Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito Dolor said late Friday night.
On Facebook, Dolor condemned the shooting to death of ORMECO director Antonio Mendeja.
He said he has ordered Police Provincial Director Police Colonel Edison Revita to conduct a quick and thorough investigation.
ORMECO also confirmed Mendeja's passing in a Facebook post early Saturday.
"Today, we honor a leader whose life was dedicated to the service of the people of Oriental Mindoro. As a Director of ORMECO, Director Antonio M. Mendeja stood as a pillar of integrity and a voice for the voiceless," the company's post read.
"While we celebrate a legacy of light and empowerment, we cannot remain silent in the face of tragedy. We honor their memory by demanding the truth. Justice for Director Antonio M. Mendeja is not just a plea; it is a necessity for the peace of our community," it added. —NB/KG, GMA Integrated News
