Suspected NPA leader killed in La Paz, Agusan del Sur clash
An alleged leader of the New People’s Army was killed in an encounter in Barangay Kasapa II, La Paz, Agusan del Sur on Sunday, the Philippine Army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade (403IB) said.
In a statement Monday, the military said the rebel died during the encounter between the supposed armed members of North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) and the 8th Infantry Battalion (8IB).
“The remains were immediately transported to the hospital and nearby funeral home to ensure appropriate services,” the military said.
“The Brigade is in close coordination with the Local Government Units, PNP and other government agencies in communicating with the family of the deceased and to provide burial assistance,” it added.
Brigadier General Seigfred Tubalado, commander of 403IB, commended the troops for their bravery, teamwork, and unwavering commitment.
According to him, the operation forms part of their ongoing efforts to dismantle the remaining armed threat group in Northern Mindanao.
“The 403rd Peacemaker Brigade shall remain our resolve in ending the Local Communist Movement in Bukidnon Province,” Tubalado said.
“The incident was really unfortunate, amidst our call for the remaining CNT to surrender, thus we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the fatalities and once again reiterate our call for them to surrender and live peacefully with our communities,” he added. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
