Man selling gun killed in police encounter in Cabuyao, Laguna
A man who was allegedly trying to sell a gun was killed during an undercover police encounter in Cabuyao, Laguna.
According to John Consulta’s Wednesday report on “24 Oras,” footage from a body-worn camera showed that the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Laguna conducted its buy-bust operation in Barangay Gulod past 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
After hearing the transaction of its undercover agent and suspect, who was selling a .45 caliber firearm, authorities moved to their target area.
However, as they neared the suspect, gunfire was heard
CIDG Laguna Deputy Chief Police Captain Elrey dela Cruz said the undercover agent and the suspect fought over a firearm after the latter sensed that the money was fake.
CCTV footage showed that the suspect fell after he was shot.
Authorities secured the perimeter of the area to identify if the suspect had any accomplices.
He was placed in the back of a pickup truck and rushed to the hospital for treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the CIDG Laguna, they launched the buy-bust operation after learning that he was selling guns in Laguna.
“Nakuhang records na nagkatoon din service of warrant arrest for the crime of robbery with force upon things noong 2014 kung saan nagresulat din sa armed encounter,” Dela Cruz said.
(Records showed that an arrest warrant was served before the suspect in 2014 for the crime of robbery with force upon things, which also resulted in an armed encounter.)
