LTO summons driver of barangay vehicle for viral reckless driving
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order (SCO) against the driver of a barangay vehicle that went viral on social media for reckless driving that endangered other road users.
In a statement on Sunday, the LTO said the registered owner of the viral white pick-up truck and its driver were directed to submit a verified explanation on February 26, 10 a.m. at the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID).
The respondents should explain why the driver should not be held liable for reckless driving and why the driver’s license should not be revoked for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
The SCO cited a viral video which showed the barangay vehicle driving fast on a road, overtaking other vehicles without using signal lights, and making unsafe swerving maneuvers that endangered other motorists and pedestrians.
The LTO added that the driver’s license of the operator of the barangay vehicle will be placed under a 90-day temporary suspension during the investigation of the complaint.
The driver should also surrender the driver’s license on the day of the hearing, while the vehicle in question was placed under an LTO alarm.
The LTO warned that the respondents’ failure to appear and submit a verified explanation will be deemed as a waiver of their right to be heard, and that the complaint will be resolved based on the evidence at hand. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
