Lava effusion, lava flow observed in Mayon Volcano — PHIVOLCS
There was lava effusion with lava flow observed in Mayon Volcano on the Basud, Bonga, and Misi gullies within the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
There was also four volcanic earthquakes, 305 rockfall and pyroclastic density current signals and there was crater glow, classified as "fair," that can be observed by the naked eye.
The volcano also released 3,891 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux per day on Monday, February 23, 2026.
The PHIVOLCS also observed obscured plume and ground deformation, which was described as an inflated volcano edifice.
The recommendations posted by PHIVOLCS include a prohibition of entry into the 6-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and flying any aircraft close to the volcano.
The possible hazards include: rockfalls or landslides or avalanches, ballistic fragments, lava flows and lava fountaining, pyroclastic density currents, moderate-sized explosions, and lahars during heavy and prolonged rainfall.
Alert Level 3 or intensified unrest and/or magmatic unrest remains over the Volcano. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
