LOOK: Mayon Volcano emits 1000-meter ash plumes

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Tuesday afternoon logged the occurrence of ash emissions from the Mayon Volcano summit crater.

According to PHIVOLCS’ social media posts, the ash emission was recorded at around 1:50 p.m.

State seismologists shared a time-lapse video of the ash plumes rising into the sky.

“This event generated a grayish to brownish plume that rose 1,000 meters above the crater before drifting west-southwest as recorded by the Mayon Volcano Observatory Crater RasPi Camera,” PHIVOLCS said.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, PHIVOLCS reported lava effusions with lava flow on the Basud, Bonga, and Misi gullies in the past 24 hours.

There were also four volcanic earthquakes, 305 rockfall and pyroclastic density current (PDC) signals and a “fair” crater glow.

Mayon Volcano remains At alert Level 3 or intensified unrest and/or magmatic unrest.

PHIVOLCS reminded the public to refrain from entering the volcano’s six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ). — JMA, GMA Integrated News
