LOOK: Effusive eruption at Mayon continues on 51st day
State volcanologists logged another effusive eruption at the Mayon Volcano for the 51st consecutive day in the early hours of Wednesday that caused incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) or “uson,” and rockfalls.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) shared four time-lapse footage of the volcano’s lava effusion and ash emission events on its social media accounts.
The lava effusion and ash emission events were logged at different times: 12:22 a.m., 3:97 a.m., 4:32 a.m., and 4:37 a.m.
“The ash emission events generated a plume that rose 150-200 meters above the crater before drifting west as recorded by the Upper Lidong Station (VMUL) thermal camera,” PHIVOLCS said.
The volcano remains under Alert Level 3, which means that entry to the six-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ) and flying near the Mayon Volcano are strictly prohibited. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
