Lava effusion with lava flow, minor ash emissions observed in Mayon Volcano — PHIVOLCS

Lava effusion with lava flow on Basud, Bonga, and Mi-isi gullies was observed with the past 24 hours on Mayon Volcano with minor ash emissions, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

At least two volcanic earthquakes occurred, 340 rockfalls and 3 pyroclastic density current signals were also recorded.

The crater glow can be seen by the naked eye and classified as "fair."

On Wednesday, it was also reported that 2,504 tonnes of sulfur dioxide flux was released from the volcano.

There was moderate emission that reached 600 meters above the crater that followed the west-southwest and southwest drift.

There is ground deformation, with state volcanologists noting that the volcano edifice is inflated.

Mayon volcano remains under Alert Level 3, where there is intensified unrest and magmatic unrest observed.

The recommendations of PHIVOLCS remain in place, including a prohibition of entry into the 6-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and flying any aircraft close to the volcano.

The possible hazards include: rockfalls or landslides or avalanches, ballistic fragments, lava flows and lava fountaining, pyroclastic density currents, moderate-sized explosions, and lahars during heavy and prolonged rainfall. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
