The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Friday morning monitored ash emissions from Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island.

“At the moment: Ongoing ash emission at Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island. Details to follow,” the PHIVOLCS said in an update.

The agency also released footage of the event.

“LOOK: Time-lapse footage of the ash emission from Kanlaon Volcano that occurred at 09:43 AM to 10:53 AM today, 27 February 2026,” PHIVOLCs said.

“This event generated voluminous grayish plumes that rose 1000 meters above the summit crater before drifting to the general South as recorded by the IP camera at Kanlaon Volcano Observatory (KVO-CC) in Canlaon City,” it added.

Alert Level 2 remains over Kanlaon Volcano, which means there is increased unrest. Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur in the volcano.

Under Alert Level 2, entry into the four-kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and the flying of any aircraft close to the volcano are prohibited.

In its bulletin covering 12 a.m. Thursday to 12 a.m. Friday, PHIVOLCS said a moderately explosive eruption that lasted two minutes was recorded in Kanlaon Volcano.

A 71-minute ash emission was reported.

A total of 14 volcanic earthquakes and 194 tonnes of sulfur dioxide emissions were also recorded.

A voluminous emission of plumes reaching up to 2,500 meters was observed from the volcano, drifting to the southwest.
