Mayon Volcano effusive eruption continues — PHIVOLCS
Mayon Volcano continues its effusive eruption for the 54th consecutive day, with time-lapse footage showing ongoing lava effusion and summit crater collapse on Saturday evening.
In a post on X, The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) showed timelapse video captured at 9:44 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. which revealed incandescent lava flows cascading from the summit, while a minor strombolian activity was observed earlier at 9:12 p.m.
PHIVOLCS said the eruption continues to generate pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), locally called “uson,” and frequent rockfalls along the slopes.
These hazardous flows pose significant risks to residents and trekkers.
Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Mayon, and authorities reiterate that entry into the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone around the volcano is strictly prohibited.
PHIVOLCS warned communities nearby to stay vigilant and comply with evacuation guidelines as necessary.
