P50M in suspected cocaine washes ashore in Palawan town

Authorities recently recovered P50 million in suspected cocaine along the coastline of Rizal town in Palawan, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Sunday.

In a statement, the PNP said local police units received a tip from a concerned resident about suspicious packages found along the shoreline of Barangay Canipaan on February 24.

Authorities found five boxes and an opened pack which contained 5.5 kilos of suspected cocaine worth P50.22 million.

“This recovery demonstrates our sustained pressure against the entry of illegal drugs through our maritime borders. We will continue to guard our coastlines and hold accountable those behind this attempt,” said PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.

Nartatez credited the immediate report of a vigilant resident for the recovery of the contraband.

Police are now investigating the possible source and intended recipients of the illegal shipment. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
