Authorities have destroyed P29.41 million in marijuana plants and dried marijuana leaves in separate eradication operations in Mountain Province, Kalinga, Benguet and Ilocos Sur, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Sunday.

In a statement, the PNP said law enforcers destroyed 50,000 fully grown marijuana plants and 40 kilos of dried marijuana stalks and leaves valued at P14.8 million along the boundary of Sadanga, Mountain Province and Tinglayan, Kalinga.

In Barangay Badeo in Kibungan, Benguet, authorities uprooted and destroyed around 11,250 fully grown marijuana plants and 84 kilos of dried marijuana leaves worth P12.33 million.

In Kapangan, Benguet, authorities eradicated 3,300 marijuana plants worth P660,000. Meanwhile, 8,100 marijuana plants worth P1.62 million in Sugpon, Ilocos Sur were destroyed.

PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the eradication operations showed the police force’s commitment to dismantle sources of illegal drugs in communities.

“We will continue to work closely with our partner agencies and communities to sustain our efforts toward a drug-free Philippines,” he added. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
