LOOK: Mayon Volcano’s lava effusion on Day 57 of effusive eruption

Mayon Volcano continued its effusive eruption for the 57th consecutive day on Tuesday, March 3 as state volcanologists observed the occurrence of lava effusion and collapse from its summit crater.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) shared a time lapse footage of the volcano’s lava effusion and collapse recorded at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday.

The volcano continues to generate incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDC) or “uson,” and rockfalls amid its effusive eruption.

In an earlier post on Monday, PHIVOLCS also shared time lapse footage of Mayon Volcano’s “minor strombolian activities” captured by thermal camera at 2:37 a.m. and 2:47 a.m. of Monday, March 2.

State volcanologists warned that Alert Level 3 continues to be in effect over Mayon Volcano, which means that entry into its six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is prohibited. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
