Jordanian linked to Bondi Beach shooting nabbed in Pagadian – military
A Jordanian national linked to the suspects in the Bondi Beach shooting in Sydney, Australia last December 2025 was arrested in Pagadian City, the Philippine Army’s 1st Infantry Division (1ID) said.
In a statement on Monday, the 1ID said the Jordanian was arrested for overstaying and engaging in business without a visa or permit.
Partner security channels obtained information that a business establishment in the Philippines associated with the Jordanian “appeared in records connected to individuals suspected in the December 14, 2025 terrorist attack near Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia,” the military said.
Because of this, the Jordanian is considered a person of interest for further review.
The military has started coordinating with concerned government agencies on the conduct of appropriate legal action regarding his immigration status.
“From 2014 to 2025, he traveled frequently between Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Malaysia,” the 1ID said.
The suspect obtained a Temporary Residence Visa in 2023, which was valid until March 2025.
“However, immigration records indicate that he remained in the Philippines approximately ten months beyond the expiration of his visa, resulting in immigration violations under Philippine law,” it added.
On December 14, 2025, 15 people were killed after father and son, Sajid and Naveed Akram, opened fire on a Jewish Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach.
Sajid was shot dead at the scene of the crime.
On February 16, Naveed appeared in court for the first time to face 59 charges, including 15 counts of murder, 40 counts of wounding with intent to murder, and a terror offense.
Earlier, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) confirmed that the two shooters visited the Philippines in November 2025 before the shooting incident. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
