PNP arrests murder suspect after 27 years in hiding

The Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested a murder suspect on March 6 who had been in hiding for 27 years in Barangay Guirang, Basey, Samar.

The suspect, identified only as “Jed,” 49, had an outstanding warrant of arrest issued by a court in 1998.

“The court-issued warrant had been pending for 27 years since November 9, 1998, marking the end of a decades-long manhunt,” the PNP said in a statement on Monday.

Police said the suspect was located through community cooperation.

The suspect was informed of his constitutional rights and brought to the Basey Municipal Police Station for documentation before being turned over to the court of origin, the PNP added.
