Motorist hits motorcycle rider after suffering heart attack

A car driver struck a motorcycle and its passenger after suffering a heart attack along N. Bacalso Avenue in Cebu City.

According to GMA Regional TV’s Nikko Sereno in “24 Oras” on Tuesday, dashcam footage showed the female motorcycle passenger’s leg was run over, while the rider slid under the car and was also struck.

The passenger tried to stand and seek help, while nearby motorists and traffic enforcers lifted the car to rescue the motorcycle rider.

“The victim’s body acted as the vehicle's brake. When I got down, the engine was still revving, meaning the driver hadn’t braked and was still pressing the accelerator,” said Richard Hijapon, who uploaded the video.

The driver’s spouse also sought help as he suffered the heart attack. The traffic enforcement unit confirmed that the 42-year-old driver later died in the hospital.

The motorcycle rider has since been discharged and is recovering. Police said both parties have already discussed settling the incident.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/MCG, GMA Integrated News
