Negros Island Region Prosecution Office to enhance legal services delivery
Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Fredderick Vida led high-level meetings with DOJ personnel and local government officials in Bacolod City to advance the setting up of the Negros Island Region (NIR) Prosecution Office.
The establishment of the Office of the Regional Prosecutor for the NIR aims to deliver more efficient prosecution services to the constituents in the region.
"This initiative marks a pivotal step toward accessible and responsive justice in the Negros Island Region. By forging strong partnerships, we are committed to upholding the rule of law and serving our people more effectively,” Vida said.
The Justice chief met with Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya, newly designated Officer-in-Charge Regional Prosecutor of the NIR Ulysses C. Andora, and the heads of more than 25 prosecution offices across the region.
The discussion centered on strengthening coordination with local government units and key stakeholders. It also tackled the identification of a permanent office for the regional prosecution office, and the administrative and operational requirements necessary for its full implementation.
Other key areas of cooperation were also highlighted, including the improvement of case management and prosecution efficiency, enhancing inter-agency coordination with law enforcement and LGUs, strengthening witness protection and victim support mechanisms, expanding access to justice services, and identifying resources and manpower requirements to sustain the effective operations of the NIR prosecution offices. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
