Lava effusion, PDCs, minor strombolian activity at Mayon Volcano — PHIVOLCS
State volcanologists observed on late Wednesday evening lava effusion, Pyroclastic Density Currents (PDC) and minor strombolian activity at Mayon Volcano.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported lava effusion with collapse PDC and minor strombolian activity was observed at 10:39 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
"Effusive eruption at Mayon Volcano continues for the 65th consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDC) or “uson”, and rockfalls," PHIVOLCS said.
"Alert Level 3 prevails over Mayon and entry into the 6-km Permanent Danger Zone must be prohibited," the agency added.
Earlier on Wednesday, PHIVOLCS reported ava effusion w/ lava flow on Basud (3.8 km), Bonga (3.1 km), and Mi-isi (1.3 km) gullies, with episodic minor strombolian activity and 202 volcanic earthquakes; 361 Rockfall and 14 pyroclasstic density current signals.
The crater glow is classified as "fair," as it can be seen by the naked eye.
A plume was also observed 750 meters above the crater, classified as Moderate emission and with south drift motion.
On ground deformation, meanwhile, PHIVOLCS said the volcano edifice is inflated.
On Tuesday, the volcano released up to 3551 tonnes of Sulfur Dioxide flux. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
