UP Baguio resumes ops on Thursday after bomb threat
The University of the Philippines Baguio resumed its operations on Thursday after students and faculty members received a bomb threat from an anonymous email the day before.
In an advisory, UP Baguio Chancellor Joel Addawe said authorities issued an “all-clear” at 2 p.m. on Wednesday after the threat was deemed false.
UP Baguio suspended classes and work after threats were received at 11:41 a.m. and 11:46 a.m. through the University Student Council’s email account and a faculty member’s email.
UP Baguio and authorities are investigating the incident for possible criminal prosecution.
“If this is a product of an individual's or a group’s malevolent mind/s, the outcome is not only disruptive but also possibly catastrophic, as it could result in a panicked stampede and/or set off physiological reactions in individuals with or without medical conditions,” Addawe said.
He also urged students, faculty, and staff to wear their identification cards while on campus.
Assistance from the Office of Counseling and Guidance, the Health Services Office, and other administrative services is also available for the students.
“Ultimately, the ‘terrorists’ are not us but those that perpetuate these senseless acts. Therefore, we should not let them win by further disrupting our lives. We should ‘push on, UP,' and as we often say, ‘Padayon’,” Addawe said. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
