A graduating student, who was sleeping inside a truck, died when it caught fire in Zarraga, Iloilo, according to GMA Regional TV's Kim Salinas’ Monday report on “Saksi.”

The driver said he did not expect that the 19-year-old victim was sleeping in front of the truck since he knew the door was locked.

Two crew members, who were sleeping at the back of the truck, were saved after the driver woke them up.

Initial investigation showed that the driver asked the victim to buy him cigarettes before the incident.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is investigating whether the fire was caused by a cigarette, an electrical issue, or foul play.

Authorities are also conducting an autopsy to determine if the victim had prior injuries before the incident.

A sound system worth P3 million was spared from the fire, as it was not inside the truck during the incident.

Maguindanao dump truck

Meanwhile, in Maguindanao del Norte, a dump truck stopped in front of a house after it caught on fire.

The blaze spread through the house. Residents thought the drums contained oil after hearing explosions.

An investigation showed that the truck carried empty drums of crude oil.

The BFP said the driver fled in panic, fearing that the owners of the burning house would be angry at him.

The driver said the fire was caused by a short circuit in the truck’s battery.

There were no reported casualties in the incident.

GMA Regional TV is seeking comment from the truck owner.
