Comelec extends registration of political parties for BARMM polls until April 6, 2026
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has extended the filing period for the registration and accreditation of regional political parties (RPPPs) and parliamentary sectoral organizations (PSOs) seeking seats in the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections due to the observance of Eid al-Fitr and Holy Week.
In a resolution issued Wednesday, the Comelec en banc approved moving the deadline for filing petitions for registration and accreditation to April 6, 2026.
“The Commission, after due deliberation, resolved, as it hereby resolves, to approve the herein proposed extension of period for filing of Petition of Registration/Accreditation of Regional Political Parties and Parliamentary Sectoral Organizations in view of the observance of Eid al-Fitr and the upcoming Holy Week, and considering the recent promulgation and publication of the 2026 Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Bangsamoro Autonomy Act (BAA) No. 35, as amended by BAA No. 88, otherwise known as the “Bangsamoro Electoral Code of 2023,” the resolution reads.
The Comelec initially set the filing period for the registration and accreditation of RPPPs and coalitions from March 17 to March 20.
Meanwhile, the filing period for PSOs and sectoral wings was originally scheduled from March 16 to March 23, 2026.
The first-ever Bangsamoro parliamentary elections will be held in September this year. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
