Cheap motorcycles sold online found to have fake documents
Authorities arrested a man in Angeles City, Pampanga for allegedly selling online cheap motorcycles with fake documents.
According to Emil Sumangil’s exclusive report on “24 Oras” on Wednesday, victim "Ed" was enticed to buy a scooter being sold online since it was offered at a low price.
The scooter was seemingly new, but a check found that its papers were fake according to the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
According to Ed, the scooter's asking price was P105,000 but was sold for P85,000.
The Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) launched an operation after the victim reported the incident.
Police said most of the documents from other victims who bought motorcycles were also found to be fake.
The stolen motorcycles came from CALABARZON and are being sold in Central Luzon, particularly in the Pampanga area.
The suspect has yet to comment on the matter.
“Dugo't pawis 'yung puhunan natin sa pambili ng motor, 'di po biro 'yung pera na pinambili, P85,000 po eh,” the victim said.
(My payment for the motorcycle was hard-earned money. P85,000 is not a small amount.)
PNP-HPG advised the public that when purchasing buy-and-sell vehicles, payment should be made near a police station, a barangay hall, or in the seller's housein order to have initial verification and validation.
It added that buyers should be careful when purchasing vehicles and that they should first verify them with the LTO to ensure that the transactions are legal.
Buyers should also watch out for red flags such as unusually low prices, photocopied Official Receipt/Certificate of Registration and other documents, or documents whose paper has a different texture. —Mariel Celine Serquiña /RF, GMA Integrated News
