PNP: P69M in marijuana destroyed in 24 operations in Benguet

Over P69 million worth of marijuana plants and dried marijuana leaves were destroyed in a week-long operation in Benguet, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Sunday.

In a statement, the PNP said joint operatives carried out 24 marijuana eradication operations across Benguet from March 16 to 22.

This resulted in the destruction and confiscation of 72,900 fully grown marijuana plants, 420 seedlings, and over 454 kilos of ried marijuana leaves, stalks, and fruiting tops.

The PNP said the destroyed illegal drugs were worth P69.172 million.

“Hindi natin titigilan ang laban kontra ilegal na droga. Tuloy-tuloy ang ating operasyon, lalo na sa mga lugar na ginagamit sa pagtatanim at produksyon,” PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.

(We will not let up in our campaign against illegal drugs. Our operations will continue, especially in areas that are used for planting and production.)

He added that beyond eradication, the PNP is also training its efforts on preventing the spread and distribution of illegal drugs across the country. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
