4 dead, 2 injured in stabbing over P1,500 in Iloilo City
Four people were killed and two others injured in a stabbing incident involving two families in La Paz, Iloilo City last Saturday.
Among those killed were Johnny Provido Sr. and his two sons, Joven and Johnny Jr., as well as Tyrone Muya. The injured were Muya’s brothers, Gilbert and Glenmark.
According to GMA Regional TV’s Kim Salinas on “24 Oras,” CCTV footage showed an argument among three men. Another man emerged from a house and struck them with a wooden plank, after which a fourth man entered and stabbed one of the men.
The clash involved members of the Provido and Muya families. Tensions reportedly rose after Johnny Provido Jr. allegedly took back P1,500 he had paid to a certain “Badoy,” an in-law on the Muya side.
Gilberto Muya, father of the Muya brothers, claimed that Johnny Jr. had been searching for “Badoy” and brought a knife with him along with his older brother.
“It was too late. When Tyrone tried to move away, he was still stabbed,” he said.
However, the Provido family denied that Johnny Jr. was carrying a knife at the time.
Both families are mourning their losses. Tyrone’s mother, Teresita Muya, said in the vernacular, “It is so painful as a mother. That was our youngest child. We love him very much.”
Virginia Provido, matriarch of the Provido family, said, “It really hurts so much. One of them was our junior, then my eldest, and then my husband.”
Police are still investigating the incident to determine the suspects and circumstances surrounding the killings. The injured Muya brothers are under hospital arrest and are expected to face charges.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/MCG, GMA Integrated News
