Fire hits PCG’s BRP Cape Engano
A fire broke out aboard BRP Cape Engaño (MRRV-4411) while docked at the Puerto Princesa International Cruise Ship Port in Palawan early Monday morning, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Tuesday.
In a statement, the PCG said the crew arrived at 5:29 a.m. and detected black smoke coming from the bosun’s store.
“The Commanding Officer ordered a fire alarm and muster, with all personnel accounted for,” the PCG said.
“The ship’s engineering team secured the power supply, while firefighting teams were deployed within minutes to contain the fire and prevent further spread,” it added.
With the help of Coast Guard District Palawan and Bureau of Fire Protection - Palawan, the fire was declared out at 6:30 a.m.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the fire incident, according to the PCG.
The PCG said follow-up assessment confirmed that the fire originated from the laundry area.
“Subsequent inspections were conducted to evaluate the extent of damage and facilitate restoration of onboard systems,” the PCG said. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
