Kanlaon Volcano spews 500-meter ash plumes anew on Tuesday
Kanlaon Volcano spewed ash once more on Tuesday afternoon, March 24, that rose up to 500 meters above its summit crater, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The ash emissions of the volcano on Negros Island began at 12:33 p.m. and 5:59 p.m. on Tuesday.
PHIVOLCS shared time lapse footages of the volcano’s ash emissions recorded from 2:43 p.m. to 3:14 p.m., and 5:59 p.m. to 6:06 p.m.
The footages were recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory-Canlaon City (KVO-CC).
“These events generated grayish plumes that have risen 100 to 500 meters above the summit crater before drifting southwest,” state volcanologists said.
On Monday, Kanlaon Volcano also spewed ash plumes that rose 100 meters above its crater.
Alert Level 2 is still in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, which had three moderately explosive eruptions this year.
The first two eruptions were logged on February 19 and February 26, respectively. The third moderately explosive eruption was last March 15.
Over the weekend, PHIVOLCS observed ash emissions from the volcano on Friday and Saturday, as well as five volcanic earthquakes.
