LOOK: Kanlaon Volcano spews 600-meter ash plumes on Wednesday

Kanlaon Volcano released ash plumes anew from its summit crater on Wednesday afternoon that rose 600 meters in the air, state volcanologists said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) released time-lapse footages of the ash emission that began at 5:54 p.m. and is still ongoing as of this writing.

“This event generated grayish plumes that rose 600 meters above the crater before drifting southwest,” PHIVOLCS said.

The footages were recorded by IP cameras of the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory-Canlaon City (KVO-CC) from 5:53 p.m. to 5:59 p.m. and 5:55 p.m. to 5:58 p.m.

Wednesday’s ash emissions at the Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island came a day after it spewed 500-meter ash plumes.

On Monday, Kanlaon Volcano also released ash plumes that rose 100 meters above its crater.

Alert Level 2 is still in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, which had three moderately explosive eruptions this year.

The first two eruptions were logged on February 19 and February 26, respectively. The third moderately explosive eruption was last March 15.

Last weekend, PHIVOLCS also observed ash emissions from the volcano on Friday and Saturday, as well as five volcanic earthquakes.
