Lava fountaining, ash clouds seen at Mayon

State volcanologists have observed lava fountaining and ash clouds on the 82nd day of Mayon Volcano's effusive eruption.

PHIVOLCS said the lava fountaining occurred at 8:23 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. on Friday.

"These events produced ash clouds that rose 400 m before drifting west-southwest," PHIVOLCS said.

"Effusive eruption at Mayon Volcano continues for the 82nd consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDC) or 'uson,' and rockfalls."

Alert Level 3 prevails over Mayon, and entry into the 6-km Permanent Danger Zone is prohibited. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
