PCG nabs 2 Chinese men for fake travel papers in Zamboanga City
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Sunday it arrested two Chinese citizens in Zamboanga City for the alleged possession and use of falsified documents they intended to use for travel to Jolo, Sulu.
Coast Guard Station Zamboanga turned over the two men to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for legal processing after their arrest on March 26.
The two men claimed to be unable to understand English or local languages but through a translator were informed of their rights and the reason for their arrest.
The PCG also facilitated medico-legal procedures in coordination with the Zamboanga City Health Office and the Bureau of Quarantine to ensure proper documentation and assessment.
The Chinese were presented before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Zamboanga for inquest proceedings, which led to the filing of appropriate charges.
The two were later returned to Coast Guard custody pending further legal action and disposition, as advised by the Bureau of Immigration. —RF, GMA Integrated News
