LOOK: Lava fountaining at Mayon on Day 84 of effusive eruption
State volcanologists logged incidents of short-lived lava fountaining at the Mayon Volcano on Sunday night, the 84th day of the volcano’s effusive eruption.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) shared footage of the short-lived lava fountaining, which was recorded at 9:01 p.m., 9:53 p.m., and 10:34 p.m.
“These events produced ash clouds that rose 200 to 600 meters before drifting southwest to south-southwest,” PHIVOLCS said.
Mayon Volcano’s 84th consecutive day of effusive eruption was marked by incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDC) or “uson,” and rockfalls.
PHIVOLCS reiterated that Alert Level 3 is still in effect and that entry into the volcano’s six-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ) is prohibited.
Earlier in the day, the agency also shared time-lapse footage that showed minor strombolian activity of Mayon Volcano at around 12:30 a.m. and 6:46 a.m. Sunday.
