PNP: P28.5M in marijuana destroyed in Benguet, Kalinga

Over P28.5 million worth of marijuana plants were destroyed in a week-long anti-narcotics drive in the Cordillera region, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Sunday.

In a statement, the PNP said 24 operations were carried out in Benguet and Kalinga from March 23 to 29.

In Benguet, 22 operations led to the discovery of more than 80,000 fully grown marijuana plants and over 57,000 grams of dried marijuana worth almost P23 million.

In Kalinga, two operations resulted in the destruction of 28,000 marijuana plants valued at P5.6 million.

“Dito pa lang sa pinagmumulan, sinisira na natin. Hindi natin hahayaan na makarating pa ito sa ating mga komunidad. Tuloy-tuloy ang ating operasyon,” PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said.

(We destroy it at the root. We will not let these drugs reach our communities. Our operations are non-stop.)

“Kung may napapansin kayong kahina-hinalang taniman o aktibidad, i-report agad sa pulis. Ang maagap na impormasyon ay malaking tulong para maprotektahan ang ating mga komunidad,” he added.

(If you notice any suspicious plantations or activities, please report it to the police. Such information is a big help in protecting our communities.)

The PNP reiterated that marijuana cultivation is illegal and those involved will face appropriate charges. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
