BI nabs South Korean for being undocumented, overstaying
A South Korean national was recently arrested in Angeles City, Pampanga for allegedly overstaying and being undocumented, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Sunday.
In a statement, the BI said its Intelligence Division apprehended the 43-year-old South Korean national on March 18 while he was receiving a delivery outside his residence.
BI agents approached the foreigner, who voluntarily confirmed his identity.
The South Korean national failed to present a valid passport and Alien Certificate of Registration Identity Card (ACR I-Card), which meant he was an undocumented alien.
Further checks also confirmed that he had overstayed his authorized period of stay in the Philippines.
The foreign national was later brought to the BI main office for booking and documentation.
“This arrest highlights our sustained efforts to locate and apprehend foreign nationals who violate the conditions of their stay,” said BI Intelligence Division chief Fortunato Manahan Jr.
Meanwhile, BI commissioner Joel Anthony Viado stressed that the agency will “not allow foreign nationals to disregard our immigration laws.”
“Those who remain in the country without proper documentation or beyond their authorized stay will be arrested and subjected to deportation proceedings,” Viado added. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
