Fewer passengers were seen at Batangas Port on Holy Tuesday compared to the same day last year, according to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA).

According to Bam Alegre’s “24 Oras” report, trips to Odiongan, Romblon, and Caticlan, Aklan are almost fully booked.

Meanwhile, there are many available trips to Abra de Ilog, Puerto Galera, and Calapan in Mindoro.

Batangas Port manager, Aurora Mendoza, said the number of passengers this year is lower compared to the same day in 2025, when it logged 27,000 passengers.

As of 12 p.m., over 7,000 passengers were logged at the port.

The port was testing its Online Registration Assistance System, a new technology designed to allow passengers to reserve tickets before arriving at the port, reducing potential hassles for travelers.

Passengers like Diven Dimaala, who booked a trip to Odiongan, said the online system significantly reduced the time spent securing tickets.

However, travelers like Jona Lastimosa expressed frustration over the new system, finding it inconvenient.

Meanwhile, passenger Jessy Lynn expressed concern for those less tech-savvy or with weak internet connections.
