PNP sends team for Camarines Sur child seeking Marcos' help
The Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed a team to assist an 11-year-old girl from Camarines Sur who sought help from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. over alleged abuse involving a barangay official.
“Following the President's directive, we immediately deployed a specialized team from the WCPC (Women and Children’s Protection Center) to ensure the safety of the child,” PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Hindi natin palalampasin ito (We will not let it slide) and we are now coordinating with the Department of the Interior and Local Government in the conduct of a thorough investigation,” he added.
Operatives from the PNP’s WCPC have been tasked to handle the case and ensure the child’s safety.
Investigators are now gathering evidence to determine the appropriate criminal charges against the accused barangay kagawad, according to the PNP.
In her March 30 letter, the girl made allegations of rape committed by the kagawad’s son and aide, as well as threats and harassment against children in their community.
She appealed for protection and the opportunity to continue her schooling safely, noting that they were being victimized despite having no involvement in politics.
Marcos earlier said the letter angered him and affected him emotionally.
He said authorities would investigate those responsible and support the victims, including helping them continue their education.
“Your letter has reached me and brought me close to tears and made me very angry. I am sending policemen to you and your sisters to protect you and to find anyone who has hurt any of you,” Marcos earlier said.
“I will make sure that you will be able to continue reading and studying as much as you want. You are a very brave, intelligent, and very kind girl and I will make sure to help you and your sisters in any way you need,” he added. —VAL, GMA News
