Archdiocese tells Davao faithful: Make observance of Holy Week simple
The Archdiocese of Davao has urged the Catholic faithful to make observance of the Holy Week simple by minimizing, for example, travel.
Amid global concerns due to the Middle East conflict, the Archdiocese reminded the public to plan only essential trips during Holy Week. It also encouraged carpooling or commuting to reduce expenses and fuel consumption.
Church leaders said visiting multiple churches is not obligatory during the traditional Visita Iglesia on Holy Thursday. Visiting one or two churches is enough.
As part of preparations for Good Friday, personnel from the Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) organized a cleanup drive along the Way of the Cross at the Shrine Hills in Matina where a large number of devotees are expected.
Devotees are expected to gather as early as 4 a.m. at the first station in GSIS for the annual pilgrimage up Shrine Hills. Confessions will also be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Crucifix Chapel within the shrine compound.
In terms of security, the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) adopted a Blue Alert status for Holy Week.
This includes monitoring of activities, ensuring communication systems are functional, and prepositioning response teams, medical personnel, and necessary equipment for incidents or emergencies.
The Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11) also assured the public of increased security in areas of convergence.
“Sa mga places of convergence, sa mga tourism spots natin, transportation hubs, vital installations. We will deploy full complement of personnel. Gusto pa natin na lahat ng kapulisan nasa labas ‘yan,” PRO-11 Director, Brigadier General Leon Victor Rosete, said. —GMA Regional TV
