A house robbery in San Miguel, Bulacan ended in a shootout between the robber and the house owner.

According to a "24 Oras" report by John Consulta on Friday, footage of the incident showed the suspect running with the items he stole at 7 a.m. on Thursday while being chased by the house owner.

Moments later, the house owner was seen running back to his home after being hit on the chest. He was immediately brought to the hospital.

Meanwhile, police conducted a follow-up operation and arrested a suspect at a nearby cemetery.

“Si suspek ay pinasok siya dun sa loob ng bahay niya. Yung bahay kasi ay may tindahan sa gilid at dun siya tinutukan. Nanlaban itong si victim hanggang tumakbo siya mabilis pa punta rin sa kanya sasakyan to get his firearms. Nagbarilan silang dalawa nitong si suspek,” said PRO3 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Jess Mendez.

(The suspect entered his home. His house had a store on the side and that was where the suspect pointed a gun at him. The victim fought back until he was able to run towards his car to get his firearms. That was when he and the suspect engaged in a shootout.)

“In less than 24 hours, we were able to arrest the suspect at nakuha rin natin yung baril na ginamit niya during the shooting incident,” he added.

(In less than 24 hours, we were able to arrest the suspect and retrieve the gun he used during the incident.)

The victim is now recovering and was able to positively identify the suspect.

GMA News Online is trying to get a comment from the suspect.

“May mga information tayo na na-receive na ito ay involved na rin sa mga robbery incidents diyan sa Bulacan. Ang tingnan natin baka dito sa nearby provinces, malapit kasi yan sa Nueva Ecija, sa Pampanga, so yun yung mga bini-verify pa natin as of this time,” said Mendez.

(We have received information that he was also involved in robbery incidents in Bulacan. What we are looking into is if it’s possible he’s also involved in nearby provinces, since it’s near Nueva Ecija and Pampanga, so that’s what we’re still verifying as of this time.) —Jiselle Anne C.
