Magnitude 6.0 earthquake strikes near Sarangani Island

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit near Sarangani Island in Davao Occidental on Saturday evening.
PHIVOLCS said the tectonic earthquake, which occurred at 6:34 p.m, struck at a depth of 34 kilometers. Its epicenter was located 139 km southeast of Sarangani Island.
The reported intensities were the following:
- Intensity III - General Santos City
- Intensity II - Sarangani and Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Tupi, T'boli, and Polomolok, South Cotabato; M'lang, Cotabato; Malapatan, Malungon, and Alabel, Sarangani; Davao City; Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur; Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat
- Intensity I - Santo Niño, South Cotabato; Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; Mawab, Davao de Oro
Instrumental Intensities:
- Intensity III - Malungon, Sarangani
- Intensity II - Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Digos City, Davao del Sur; Malapatan and Kiamba, Sarangani; T'Boli, Santo Niño, and Tupi, South Cotabato; M'lang, Cotabato; Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat; General Santos City
- Intensity I - Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental; Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; Davao City; Maasim, Saragani; Kidapawan City, Cotabato; Surallah, Banga, Tampakan, and Lake Sebu, South Cotabato; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental; Kadingilan, Bukidnon; Zamboanga City
Although damage from the earthquake was not expected, PHIVOLCS said that aftershocks could occur. —VBL, GMA News
