Magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit Bogo, Cebu

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Bogo City, Cebu on Monday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The PHIVOLCS initially logged the earthquake at magnitude 5.4.

State seismologists said the earthquake of tectonic origin occurred at 3.22 p.m. and had a depth of 11 kilometers.

The epicenter is located at 10.96°N, 124.05°E - 012 km S 38° E of Bogo City.

PHIVOLCS also reported intensities in the following areas:

  • Intensity V - City of Bogo and Medellin, Cebu
  • Intensity IV - Sogod, Cebu; Villaba, Leyte
  • Intensity III - Bantayan, Liloan, City of Toledo, and Tudela, Cebu; the cities of Cebu, Mandaue in Cebu
  • Intensity II - Inabanga, Bohol; Argao and City of Talisay, Cebu
  • Intensity I - Badian, and San Fernando, Cebu
