LTO summons driver, owner of SUV in viral road rage video

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order (SCO) against the driver and the registered owner of a sports utility vehicle (SUV), whose passengers were allegedly involved in a road rage incident that went viral on social media.

In a statement on Monday, the LTO said the viral video showed the SUV’s male passengers who alighted from their vehicle and allegedly confronted another motorist. They also allegedly blocked the other vehicle.

“Ito ay nagdulot ng panganib at abala sa iba pang motorista,” the agency said.

(This caused danger and inconvenienced other motorists.)

The LTO summoned the driver and registered owner of the SUV to a hearing at the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID). They may secure the services of a lawyer for the proceedings.

They should explain why they should not be penalized for reckless driving, obstruction of traffic, and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle over the road rage incident.

The LTO ordered the driver to surrender his driver’s license, which will be preventively suspended for 90 days. The SUV will be also placed under alarm during the investigation.

Should the respondents fail to appear or submit a sworn explanation to the LTO, this will be considered a waiver of their right to be heard.

The LTO said it will then resolve the complaint based on available evidence. — JMA, GMA News
