PHIVOLCS confirms 5.1 quake in Bogo City, Cebu as 2025 aftershock event
CCTV footage showed the reaction of people in establishments, a school, and a beauty pageant when a strong quake struck Bogo City, Cebu on Tuesday.
The epicenter of the 5.1-magnitude earthquake that hit Bogo City in Cebu on Tuesday afternoon is considered an aftershock of the 2025 quake that hit the same area, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
In the report of GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak's Nikko Sereno on "State of the Nation," state seismologists said the two earthquakes had the same epicenter.
A 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit Bogo City, Cebu on September 30, 2025 that caused damage to properties across a large part of Cebu province.
"Based on the initial assessment and reports submitted by our concerned offices, there have been no reported major damages to infrastructure within the city," said Bogo City Mayor Maria Cielo Martinez in a social media post.
"We have, however, received reports of minor injuries, and these have already been promptly attended to by our City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CBDRRMO) as well as responding personnel from our peace and order council both from LGU and partner National POC members," she added.
The quake on Tuesday afternoon was also felt in the cities of Cebu and Mandaue.
Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival said in a social media post that "initial reports confirm that the impact remains manageable and no major damage has been reported as of this time."
"Our teams are already deployed and conducting monitoring and assessment to ensure everyone’s safety," he added.
The quake was also felt in Palompon, Leyte wherein students were students went out of their classrooms.
In Iloilo City, government employees went out of City Hall. — BAP, GMA News
