Two men were arrested after robbing a gasoline station in Barangay Poblacion 1 in General Emilio Aguinaldo, Cavite on Monday night.

According to Ivan Mayrina’s report in “24 Oras” on Tuesday, CCTV showed the suspects were aboard a motorcycle pretending they were regular customers. The duo suddenly pulled out their guns and held the two pump attendants at gunpoint.

The suspects snatched each of the victims’ bags that contained a day’s worth of earnings.

Alerted, a police car chased the suspects until the town of Alfonso. The suspects attempted to shoot their pursuers with an improvised shotgun.

“The fleeing suspects attempted to shoot the responding police officers. This prompted our officers to return fire,” said Cavite Provincial Police Office public information officer Police Lt. Jane Drio.

One of the suspects was hit on the shoulder, causing the motorcycle to crash. The latter was arrested while his accomplice escaped on foot.

In a follow-up operation conducted Tuesday morning, the second suspect was found and later attempted to run away and even tried to hide under a car, but he was still arrested. He was identified as a minor.

Cavite Police said the authorities recovered nearly P100,000 in stolen cash from the suspects.

Also seized were the motorcycle used in the crime, an improvised shotgun, two mobile phones, and a bladed weapon.

GMA News is still trying to get a statement from the suspects.

“They are notorious for committing robberies in the upland areas of Naic and Ternate. We are currently verifying if they have any other pending cases,” said Drio, adding that charges for illegal possession of firearms and robbery were filed against them. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA News
