Cobra bites student athlete in Sultan Kudarat

A cobra bit a student athlete of Koronadal who is set to compete in the SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Athletic Association Meet in Sultan Kudarat.

According to the companion of the student athlete, the incident happened at the quarters where she was staying at a school in the municipality of President Quirino, Unang Balita reported on Wednesday.

The student athlete was going to get something from her bag when she was bitten by the cobra.

The cobra apparently was able to get inside her bag undetected.

Teachers brought the student athlete to the hospital.

The bite was fortunately just shallow and the cobra was not able to release its venom.

The student athlete is currently recovering. She will not be able to attend the opening ceremony of the SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Athletic Association Meet, but would be able to compete in the events.

Meanwhile, the cobra was killed.

School authorities said they fixed the said quarters and covered up openings where snakes can get through.

The Koronadal local government unit meanwhile said it would pay for the cost of the treatment of the student athlete. —KG, GMA News
