LOOK: Mayon Volcano records brief lava fountaining
Mayon Volcano recorded a short-lived lava fountaining episode on Wednesday morning.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said the event occurred at around 7:26 a.m.
Minutes earlier, lava effusion accompanied by collapse-fed pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) was observed at 7:23 a.m. and 7:24 a.m.
“Effusive eruption at Mayon Volcano continues for the 92nd consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) or ‘uson,’ and rockfalls,” PHIVOLCS said.
Mayon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3, with entry into the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone strictly prohibited.
Earlier, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) warned the public of possible PDCs, rockfalls, and ashfall due to potential lava collapse events at the volcano.—MCG, GMA News
