BuCor asks NBI to re-enact death of personnel, 2 cops in Palawan
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Wednesday said it has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to re-enact the incident that led to the death of BuCor personnel Jerson Talon and two cops on Good Friday in Palawan.
In a statement, the bureau said Talon's family presented a video showing him face down on the ground with his hands tied behind his back.
BuCor said this raised serious concerns about the conduct of the individuals involved.
It said the involvement of the Philippine National Police and the NBI is crucial to ensure an impartial probe, considering that both victims and suspects are public officials.
According to the bureau, the incident involved allegedly intoxicated police officers and civilians at a wake near Talon's home.
Talon and his wife were inside their residence when he heard a gunshot. He then went to the wake to secure his daughter's safety.
On their way inside their house following the incident, BuCor said three men in civilian clothes introduced themselves as police officers and questioned Talon about the disturbance.
The bureau said Imelda claimed that despite Talon introducing himself as a BuCor officer, the men forcibly entered their home and dragged Talon away.
She and her children then sought cover and heard multiple gunshots.
According to the bureau, she later saw two police officers of the Puerto Princesa City Police Station 2 lying on the ground.
Following this, Imelda and their children hid inside their neighbor's house before she reached out to BuCor.
They were later taken to the NBI-Palawan office for protection.
Meanwhile, the BuCor said the PNP has suspended and relieved the individuals involved in the incident.
It added that Talon's family is considering filing administrative criminal charges against those responsible. — VDV, GMA News
