WATCH: Minor strombolian activity on Day 92 of Mayon’s effusive eruption

Mayon Volcano continued its effusive eruption for the 92nd consecutive day as state volcanologists logged minor strombolian activity anew at its summit crater on Wednesday afternoon.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) shared a close-up footage of the low-level volcanic activity recorded by the Mayon Volcano Observatory at 5:50 p.m.

Minor strombolian activity are low-level, intermittent explosions that launch lava fountains and magma fragments from the crater.

“Effusive eruption at Mayon Volcano continues for the 92nd consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) or ‘uson,’ and rockfalls,” PHIVOLCS said.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, PHIVOLCS observed another short-lived lava fountaining at the volcano at around 7:26 a.m.

Before this, lava effusion accompanied by collapse-fed PDCs was observed at 7:23 a.m. and 7:24 a.m.

State volcanologists reiterated their warning that Mayon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 and that entry into its six-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited. — JMA, GMA News
