Customs destroys P266k worth of smuggled cigarettes in Zamboanga

Over P266,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes seized  at the Port of Zamboanga were destroyed by the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

In a statement Thursday, BOC said a total of 5,069 master cases, 2,620 reams, and 32 packs of assorted cigarettes were seized through several operations nationwide.

The contraband was worth an estimated P266,067,363.

In his speech, Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno stated contraband entering the country against the law has no place in the Philippine markets and will be prevented by the BOC.

The destruction of the contraband was witnessed by representatives from the BOC, the Port of Zamboanga, the local government, and the national government. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/RF, GMA News
